We often come across very well meaning people in our line of work; people who want to save paper, who care about the environment and who genuinely want to ‘print less’. The challenge though is they often have little to no understanding of the capabilities of the machines that exist in their organisation or the different features they can use to make ‘printing less’ a reality.

It is expected that by 2014, 50% of all imaging devices in business will be under some form of managed print services contract. The benefit for businesses in shifting to a managed print approach has always been that they receive the right machines, in the right place, for the right jobs. The brand or vendor should be second to functionality and business need.

We saw some interesting news this week about computer game publisher Ubisoft’s decision to stop producing printed manuals for its games. Ubisoft says the decision was made for environmental reasons and produces some compelling stats to show how much this decision will impact the planet.

As a media topic, the GFC has been largely left behind leaving the way clear for issues of CleanTech, carbon reduction and sustainability to once again dominate the agenda. There’s lots of talk around whether Australia is capitalizing on the opportunity to lead the way in CleanTech as well as speculation and debate around government and opposition plans for emissions reduction.
